Android · In development
More space. Right on your phone.
We’re building a native Oshoot experience for Android, with local photo matching and a considered review before anything moves to trash.
A preview, with room to grow.
The Android app is still in development. The latest checked test build is 0.5.0. It is not yet available on Google Play, and there is no public store download to install today. You can use the browser cleaner now.
Try Oshoot in your browserThe preview’s approach
- Compare on your phone. Exact copies use SHA-256 file hashing. The 0.5.0 test build uses a bundled AI model and local visual measurements for similar-photo suggestions. Photos are processed on the device.
- Review the moments that matter. Compare suggestions and choose which photos to keep. Similar photos can be different memories, so the decision stays with you.
- Keep photo processing local. The current native preview does not request Android’s INTERNET permission. It reads photos through Android’s permission system.
What your Android version supports
| Android version | Preview workflow |
|---|---|
| Android 11+API 30 and later | Scan, review, export, and request system trash for eligible gallery photos with Android’s confirmation. |
| Android 8–10API 26–29 | Scan, review, and export. Remove files separately in your gallery or file manager. |
The minimum supported version is Android 8. Private batches selected through the photo picker support review and export only. The 0.5.0 build offers scan batches of up to 100 or 1,000 photos and limits each cleanup action to 100 photos. Photo permissions determine what is available; these are batch scans, not unlimited whole-library scans.
System trash is temporary: Android controls the expiry, typically around 30 days, and can permanently remove trashed items afterward. Trashed photos may still use storage. Check the expiry on your device and keep a separate backup of photos you want to preserve.
How it differs from the browser cleaner
The browser version is available now. It scans files you select and exports a CSV cleanup list; it cannot delete or move originals. It also offers an optional downloaded AI model for local visual matching.
The native preview focuses on Android’s photo library and system-confirmed trash where supported. Its AI model is bundled with the app, and saved reviews and collections can retain photo references and review choices locally. Installing the website as a home-screen shortcut does not turn it into the native Android app.
Release testing is still in progress
Android 0.5.0 is still a test build. Saved reviews, collections, trash, and restore need further device testing before a public release. You can use the browser cleaner now.
